$2

Last week I went to the bank to get a money order for $2. No that is not a typo, that is two dollars. I went up to the counter and this is what was said.

Me: "I would like to get a money order."

Her: "OK. For what amount?"

Me: "$2 "

Silence

Her: "Do you have an account with us?"

Me: "Yes"

Her: "Do they usually charge you when you get a money order?"

Me: " I don't think so. It's been a while since I have gotten one."
I think to myself, why are you asking me? You work here. Shouldn't you know?!

Her: "Well, I think we have a $3 charge for all money orders."
I checked online and there is no fee for money orders if you have an account at the bank

Her: "Can you pay online?"
I had explained to her why I needed the money order

Me: "I prefer to do a money order."

Her: " Well, I guess I can waive the $3 fee."

Me: "Thanks"

  1. Your bank is nice. The bank I work for charges $5 for a money order and $6 for a cashier's check. It depends what type of account you have if you get the fee waived or not. :) Yay that they didn't charge you!
