Oldies But Goodies

I love old movies. Last night, Yours, Mine and Ours with Henry Fonda and Lucille Ball came on. It is one of my favorite movies and this one is so much better that the remake with Dennis Quaid. Why do people insist on remaking or doing sequels to movies that are better left alone. Linsey Lohan did The Parent Trap and in my opinion it fell short. Everyone knows that the Haley Mills version is the best. Disney is the worst. Cinderella is supposed to stop at happily ever after. I heard a rumor that Zac Efron was going to remake Footloose. Why can't people leave good movies alone.

Now that I am done ranting here are some of my all-time favorite movies:

The Quiet Man
McLintock
Yours, Mine and Ours
Move Over Darling
An Affair to Remember
I Was a Male War Bride
The Cowboys
Footloose
The Parent Trap
Father Goose
Donavon's Reef
Always
Operation Petticoat
Pretty In Pink
The Breakfast Club
Sixteen Candles
Tremors
Arachnophobia
Salems Lot
The Storm of the Century

Snow

One of the great thing about working at a hotel is that you get to stay there when the weather is bad. The drive into work today was gruelling. My car has 4 wheel drive and I was having a hard time staying on the road. It has been snowing all day and I am glad I don't have to drive home at 11 o'clock at night. I hate driving in the dark anyways but especially when it is snowing and your windshield likes to freeze when the wipers are going. Hopefully the snow plows will be caught up by morning.

Update-
It was a good thing I did not drive home wednesday night. After snowing all day it started to rain and then froze. Not only did I fall flat on my A$# when I took the garbage out at work but our maintinence guy came in and said that he slid and almost hit two cars while driving 10mph in a very heavy dump truck with a plow attatched.

Success

I finally made Amish Friendship Bread. I completed it it and made it with out messing up. I had one little hitch in the baking process but nothing that couldn't be fixed. I found that I was a quarter cup short of oil. I had to throw on a bra, pull my hair back and get Evan bundled up so I could go get oil from The Little Yellow Store (that's what it says on the sign outside). It was so worth it. If you ever get the chance to make it, DO IT. It is so good!!! Success was mine today.

PB & J

I LOVE peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. but not just any peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. It has to be CRUNCHY PB and it must always be PEACH PINEAPPLE jam. There is nothing in this world better than my mothers homemade peach pineapple jam. I had her send it to me while I was in Alaska and when she visited this past Christmas she brought like ten jars of the ambrosia and I was so excited and thankful. Since I have always been spoiled with homemade jam I can hardly stomach the store bought stuff. Eventually I know I will have to learn how to make it or never eat a PB & J again but for now I am happy to have my mother send it to me.

This morning felt like the good old days. When you go outside to start your car and it screeches like a banshee because it is soooooo cold and when you're finally ready to go to work and you step outside all the moisture in your body, like boogers, automatically freezes and you can't catch your breath. I haven't felt like that since I moved from Alaska. Aw... those were the days. As you can probably already guess it was cold today. It started out at -16 and gradually got warmer as the day went on but not by much. So glad I was inside most of the day.
Speaking of which, it was a fun day at work. It never ceases to amaze me that people think the world revolves around them and that they can get anything they want because that is what they want. This lady called today and said that she was here last year and that she wanted a same room as last year and could she book it. That's great when people know what the want but just because they want it doesn't make it so. I told her I didn't have that available but I have several other options for her. While trying to explain those options she kept interrupting me and asking for the room that wasn't available and telling me that she had to be on the first floor etc. Then she had the gall to ask me if I could move other reservations just so she could get the exact room she wanted. HELL NO!! Evan if I wanted to move other people around my hands are tied when it comes to certain reservations like bus groups. I finally got done explaining and giving her rates and she said she needed to think it over because that was not what she had wanted when she called. Boohoo. She finally called back and booked what I had available. This is just one of the first of many calls from people who don't listen/don't want to listen to what we tell them.

Sorry if this blog wasn't very coherent. Ranting tends to do that to me.

Shoulda Knew Better

Do you ever have one of those days where everything is going great until you put one toe in the kitchen and then it's a downhill train wreck? That was my evening yesterday. My friend Lidian gave me a starter for Amish Friendship Bread. I had eaten this bread in Alaska but have never tried to make it myself. So for ten days I mushed and I mushed this stupid bag of starter. I let the air out of it when it became bloated. Then on the final day, the day when I was supposed to measure and add yet more flour, sugar, etc. and then separate it so I could share the joy of Amish friendship Bread with others, it all blew up in my face. I am usually really careful about checking the recipe against what is in the cupboards. The ONE TIME I don't I find that I am am missing not only the 4 plastic bags ( the most important part because without them I can not give the gift that is Amish friendship Bread to others) but also the vanilla pudding that makes this bread oh so moist and delicious. So in a fit of frustration everything went down into the drain. I now regret my rash decision and thankfully I will get another chance to redeem myself.

FYI: Brett was extremely upset when he found out there would be no Amish Friendship Bread this week.

Sunday Drive

I had a wonderful Sunday morning drive to work today. We had a light sprinkle of snow (around 5 in and it's still coming down), the roads were clear (well one side of the road anyway and it didn't happen to be the same side I was driving on) and traffic was light (except for all the snow plows on the road that were just driving around and not plowing the snow). What more could a girl ask for on a Sunday morning.

Can I just say that the movie Wall-E is so freaking cute. Kari and I could not stop laughing. I love watching movies. While my parents were here, my sisters and I (along with my father) went to see Marley and Me, but by the time we got to the theater the only seats left were in the very front. Sorry to get off track but this theater was pretty awesome. Each screening room had tables and reclining chairs. Waitresses would come around and take your order and then bring it around before or during the movie. OK, thanks for taking that little side trip with me. So we decided we would pick a different movie. After much debate and my opinion being completely ignored, they came to the conclusion that we just had to see Seven Pounds. That was the saddest movie EVER! By the time the movie was over, everyone was crying and snot was dripping. I just had to tell them I told you so. I did not want to see that movie for that very reason. I had read the reviews and knew what it was about. but would anybody listen to me. No. Welcome to my life as the middle child. Enough of that. I do recommend that everybody should see these two movies. Seven Pounds is definitely a movies to watch in the comfort of your own home with a BIG box of tissues.

Ok. So I love to read other peoples blogs and since I had a little time I have decided to give blogging a try. i can't promise they will be funny, interesting or "deep" but hey, that's OK. Right? So just bear with me and we get this show on the road.
